Monte Castello di Vibio The Center of Monte Castello di vibio is situated in front of Todi town , in a stratecically Tiber valley that the town dominates and controls. it was already inhabited in pre-roman age, as some searches of the end of the 19th century seem to testify. Montecastello di Vibio owes it's name to the " Vibia Gens" , one of the famous familiaes wich during the period of maximum Republican imperial Rome splendor , created the " fida Tuder splendidissima colonia " . It's know that in Montecastello di Vibio already existed for several centuries before this date, as a settlement of the native populations. Then came the tormented years, or even better centuries of conflict with nearby Todi , even more powerful, was obliget to ban di Vibio from any kinds of trade, in order to tame spirit of dipendence .Two Podestà of Todi had the boundaries walls of the small fortress and subsequently also the towers dismatled since when in 1392 pope Bonifacio IX granted the castle to Catalan of the Atti . In 1396 following the death, of catalan the castle was conquered by Biordo Michelotti , Perugia's gentleman and sourrunded to Pietro Angelo of the Counts of Marciano. Regained by the Atti in 1405 it became property of Ludovico Migliorati. Under Napoleon, Montecastello of Vibio lived a period of redemption and great splendour since it became the owner of a vast land near Orvieto.
